Our History

Matt Esfahani founded Matt Camron Rugs & Tapestries in 1980. The company has grown from its first gallery in the River Oaks area of Houston to include galleries in Chicago, Dallas, Denver, and Scottsdale.

Matt graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He left a career in oil and gas to start Matt Camron, Inc. For the past 30 years, Matt has specialized in antique textiles, oriental rugs, kilims, and oriental needlework, as well as European rugs and tapestries. Matt has lectured to antique study groups and contributed to articles in Veranda and Southern Accent magazines. Matt has been a frequent participant in the Southern Accent/Neiman Marcus Idea Houses in Dallas, as well as in the Pink Ribbon Houses in Houston, benefiting breast cancer research at Baylor College of Medicine.

Matt is a member of the International Society of Appraisers, is an ASID Industry Partner and has served on the Costume and Textile Sub-Committee of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston.

Matt and his wife, Jennifer, are among the Founding Benefactors of the Arts of the Islamic World at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Matt currently serves on the Arts of the Islamic World Sub-Committee of the MFAH.

She worked 2 years as an auditor before joining Matt Camron in Fall 2009.

About the Matt Camron Collection

The Matt Camron Collection in each store is a combination of fine art antique rugs, decorative older rugs and the finest new rugs being produced today. Matt personally buys all of the old rugs himself, literally traveling the globe for their acquisition.
